Although you obviously can’t prevent a frost from occurring, knowing whether you've had a frost or not in a specific field and how severe it was, is still very important. With this knowledge you can make better crop management decisions after the frost event, from deciding whether to apply more fertiliser or instead stop spending money on a crop, to planning to bale a crop instead of harvesting the grain, knowledge is key in making these critical decisions.

HOW IT WORKS

 

When you order INCYT’s Frost detection kit, we send you our Polaris frost sensor as well as a weather shield for the sensor. You then setup the INCYT app on your phone, select the Frost application and activate your sensor. For more information see the INCYT Academy or call our friendly customer support team at any time if you require assistance! Once you have the app setup and sensor activated, you are now ready to place the frost sensor wherever you like; most farmers tend to zip-tie the sensor and weather shield simply to a star picket which can then be put anywhere in a field. You can of course decide for yourself how high you’d like to mount the frost sensor - depending on your preference for frost monitoring in that specific field.

 

You can set the INCYT app to send you an alert when a frost occurs, and also track historic temperatures to find out exactly how severe a frost event was (temperature and duration). No base station or additional network infrastructure is required; all you need is LTE-M connectivity via Telstra or any other major provider (available in most areas, even without 3G or 4G). This coverage map shows you whether you have LTE-M available on your farm.

 

Sensor sampling occurs every 15 mins or 1/hour depending on plan selected and transmits that data once per day unless it detects a frost. During frost event the sensor sampling occurs more frequently. The app reports the degree-hours below your set threshold, to give the user an idea of frost severity.
